At the bilateral meeting on 10 March in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius expressed his gratitude to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson for his country's courageous action - recognition of Lithuania's independence on 11 February 1991. In June, this event will be commemorated in Vilnius by civic campaign Thank You, Iceland, Lithuanian MFA reports.

The importance of further sanctions for Russia and coordinated effort of the European Union, the United States of America and other partners are key to ensure full implementation of the Minsk agreements, underlined the Minister.

Lithuanian and Icelandic ministers have discussed regional security situation - Linkevičius underlined that implementation of the NATO Summit decisions made in Wales need to be consistent and Russian propaganda can be countered with joint efforts.

Minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson together with the president of Iceland have attended the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Restoration of Lithuania's Independence.
