The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposed to the Cabinet to adopt a resolution on establishing the Lithuanian Embassy in Pretoria on 5 November.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius is also planning a visit to South Africa in autumn. In his words, Lithuanian businesspeople have interests in the African country. Lithuania's BOD Group is set to start implementing a solar panel pilot project in South Africa.

The Government of Lithuania has already decided to close the country's embassies in Portugal, Bulgaria and Slovenia and instead establish them in South Africa and Australia as well as a consulate general in Los Angeles.
