Some 20,000 euros will be transferred to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and another 35,000 euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

"Thus, Lithuania aims to contribute to the provision of humanitarian aid in Ukraine, taking into account the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) call for 187 million US dollars to launch Ukraine's Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for 2018," the ministry said in a press release.

The United Nations estimates that the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine has directly affected 4.4 million people, of whom 3.4 million need humanitarian aid, and has claimed 10,300 lives and left another 24,800 injured.

The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has this year allocated 95,000 euros for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Palestinian refugees and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
