At the 5th Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism held in Jerusalem on 12-14 May, Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mantvydas Bekešius reviewed Lithuania's accomplishments in liquidating consequences of the Holocaust and combating the manifestations of anti-Semitism, especially in cyberspace, Lithuania's MFA said.

Bekešius noted that Lithuania has resolved the restitution of Jewish religious property by adopting and implementing the Law of Good Will Compensation and is putting all efforts to preserve Jewish heritage in Lithuania. "When people realize that culture and history of ethnic minorities are an integral part of the culture and history of Lithuania, there would be no ground for anti-Semitism, manifestations of hatred or distrust," noted Bekešius.

Lithuania's deputy foreign minister emphasized that the necessary legal framework and infrastructure had been developed in Lithuania to monitor, prevent and punish hate crimes. The Lithuanian representative also drew attention to the importance of the training of law enforcement officials on addressing hate crimes and of upbringing the young generation in the spirit of tolerance and democracy.

On 13 May, Bekešius met with Deputy Director-General for Diplomacy at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alon Ushpiz to discuss cooperation between Lithuania and Israel.
