During the stay in Washington, the minister intends to meet with top officials of the US departments of state and defense, as well as national security advisers to Vice-President Mike Pence, the Foreign Ministry said.

Linkevičius will also travel to New York to attend the United Nations Security Council's open debate on Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Conflicts in Europe. While in New York, the Lithuanian diplomacy chief will meet with the new US secretary general to discuss the most relevant issues on the international agenda and challenges the UN is faced with.

The Lithuanian minister's agenda in New York also includes meetings with Ukraine's foreign minister and US president's special adviser on cyber security. Linkevičius is also planned to meet with former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, chairman of the Trump task force for proposals in connection to cyber security and defense.

The minister should also meet with NATO's Phillip Mark Breedlove, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), and the Alliance's former deputy secretary general Alexander Vershbow. Linkevičius is also scheduled to meet with leaders of non-governmental organizations.

This is Linkevičius' first visit to the US after inauguration of the Trump administration.
