At Ukraine's request, the injured soldiers will be treated at civilian hospitals in Lithuania, the Ministry of National Defence said.

The Ukrainian soldiers will be accompanied to Vilnius by three military doctors and will be welcomed by automobiles of the War Medical Service and civilian ambulances at the airport, which will transport them to hospitals in Vilnius and Kaunas.

The Spartan will bring the injured Ukrainians on its way back from Lviv where it airlifted Lithuanian troops due to attend the international exercise Rapid Trident 2014 on 15-26 September.

Medical treatment in hospitals will be financed from the Lithuanian government's reserve fund, which the government earmarked this February for the medical services for injured Ukrainians. Some 150,000 litas (EUR 43,500) was granted for the purpose.

After meeting with Ukraine's Ambassador to Lithuania Valery Zhovtenko in late August, Lithuania's Healthcare Minister Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė said Lithuania would receive 16 persons in hospitals.

From the start of protests in Kiev last November, Lithuania's medical institutions have provided services to 29 persons injured in Ukraine.
