After the group visited the Foreign Ministry on Monday, the ministry said that parents of some of the children had been killed or injured during the war.

Foreign Vice-Minister Darius Skusevičius who met with the Ukrainian students emphasized that Lithuania had been providing assistance to the people of Ukraine and continue to do so, with a special focus on children affected by the war.

The Lithuanian Riflemen's Union this year received three groups of Ukrainian students for camps this summer.

At the beginning of 2014, Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. War between Moscow-supported separatists and Kiev forces broke out in Eastern part of the country later that year.

Since then, Lithuanian institutions have granted more than 8.5 million euros worth of assistance to Ukraine.
