"It's an important step that will contribute to strengthening economic relations between the region of Klaipėda and Belarus. All the more so, the region of Klaipėda is Lithuania's key sea and land bridge for economic exchanges in the east-west and north-south directions across the Baltic Sea. We hope that the Honorary Consulate in Klaipėda will help to increase reciprocal cargo flows and maintain intensive cooperation in the area of transportation and logistics," Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Mantvydas Bekešius said during the opening ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov, Lithuanian Ambassador to Belarus Evaldas Ignatavičius, Belarusian Ambassador to Lithuania Alexander Korol, leadership of the City of Klaipėda and heads of Lithuanian and Belarusian companies.

Belarusian Honorary Consul Longvin has lived and worked in Lithuania since 1982. He became a citizen of Lithuania in 1991.
