Lithuania's Minister of Energy Jaroslav Neverovič sees no reason for Russia, who has become subject to sanctions imposed by Western states, to take measures against Lithuania such as a gas embargo.

"I think such a scenario is impossible for several reasons. First, we do not depend on the flow that is directly problematic, namely, gas traffic which crosses the Ukrainian territory towards the European Union. We are meeting all our obligations to Gazprom, there are no issues regarding gas supply. Of course, there is that dispute which is solved through arbitration. Here, of course, the interests of our country are being represented, but I do not see any reason for the escalation," said the minister in an interview with the Žinių Radijas radio on Thursday.

According to Neverovič, the possibility to stop buying Russian gas is under consideration in the European Union. However, he adds, in Lithuania this scenario is premature and cannot be under consideration before the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal is launched.
