"In Panemunė [checkpoint on the Lithuanian-Kaliningrad border], a truck with raw food tried to pass last night but was sent back. A Norwegian truck was also sent back," Gintarė Satkauskienė, a spokeswoman for the Customs Department, told BNS.
She added that the drivers of both trucks were waiting for instructions from their companies.
The director of the Lithuanian State Food and Veterinary Service said earlier on Friday that two trucks with Biovela's meat products had not been allowed to cross Lithuania's border with Belarus at the Medininkai border checkpoint.
However, the Customs Department's spokeswoman said that the vehicles had apparently not reached the customs post and, therefore, had not been registered by the customs office.
Lithuania has border with the Kaliningrad region. Shipments to other parts of Russia go via Belarus, Latvia and Estonia.
Russia on Thursday imposed a "full embargo" on agricultural product and food imports from the EU, US and some other countries in retaliation against Western sanctions over its support for pro-Russia separatists fighting in Ukraine. The ban will last for one year.
