The Ministry of Finance has proposed an overhaul of Lithuania's State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), cutting the number of regional divisions in half.

The proposal envisages leaving five regional divisions of the institution instead of the current ten, Lietuvos Žinios reports.

Alytus County State Tax Inspectorate (AVMI) and Marijampolė AVMI would be merged with Kaunas AVMI, Tauragė AVMI and Telšiai AVMI would become departments under Klaipėda AVMI and Panevėžys AVMI would incorporate Utena AVMI.

The reorganization is to start in October.

The ministry says the overhaul will not cut the number of service points. It says the plan would help save between €135,500 and 203,200 per year.
