The Lithuanian State Audit Office has criticized some municipalities for the way of managing and distributing social housing.

"Municipalities often choose the most expensive way of buying housing – newly-built housing and reconstruction of unused buildings. Furthermore, average prices of projected new constructions and reconstructions differ between two and 10 times in municipalities, as compared with the average market prices. This means that the municipalities provide housing to fewer individuals and families for the available financial resources," the state auditors said in their conclusion.

The information about the decisions taken by some municipalities has been handed over to the Special Investigation Service in charge of anti-corruption measures.
