Consumption per person aged 15 years and over also increased by three packs to 58.5 packs, the statistics office said.

Lithuania's cigarette production shrank by 0.2 percent in 2014 compared with 2013. Imports, however, soared by 13.8 percent.

Retail prices for tobacco products rose by 5.3 percent, mainly as a result of an increase in the excise duty rate on March 1.

Klaipėda-based Philip Morris Baltic, which is part of the global tobacco group Philip Morris International, is Lithuania's sole cigarette manufacturer.
