"Tracks of friendship were laid at the China-Lithuania: Silk Road Economic Belt forum, which also marked the launch of the Beijing office of JSC Lithuanian Railways," highlights China Daily.

The newspaper underlined that located in the Baltic region, Lithuania is a major crossroad connecting the trade routes between the East and the West. In addition, as one of the largest transportation companies in the European Union, Lithuanian Railways is ideally suited to expand the railway network between Asia and Europe.

During an interview given by Arijandas Šliupas, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania expressed high expectations for the new Beijing office of JSC Lithuanian Railways. According to the Deputy Minister, the new representative office will help Lithuania to understand better the characteristics of Chinese transport and logistics sector.

According to China Daily, China is proposing to co-construct a new Silk Road Economic Belt with the help of all Eurasian countries. Last year, the trade volume between the EU and China reached nearly USD 560 billion.

According to experts, railway transport can save time and money i.e. it only takes one to two weeks to transport cargoes between European countries and China and the rail service is cheaper compared with air transport and shipping by sea.
