3D printers and scanners, laser cutters, router machines, cutting-edge computers and an electronics lab: all this has become available in the newly opened Green Garage, the first professional maker space in the Baltic states. The equipment in the workshop is worth €300,000 and is available to everyone who is interested in technology, has ideas or wishes to create something new, Green Garage press office informed.

“You will not find anything even comparable 500 kilometres away from Vilnius. Everybody who visits the space will be able to use the latest technologies and create prototypes from metal, wood or plastics. We believe that this will speed up and strengthen the community of makers, and for some will accelerate the start of their own businesses,” says Alisa Matsanyuk, the founder of Green Garage.

Not only future inventors are welcome at Green Garage, but also technology start-ups, entrepreneurs children, teenagers and students. The space will be very useful for people such as architects, engineers, scenographers and designers, whose professions require specialised industrial equipment.

A learning centre will soon be established here, where robotics, programming and modelling courses will be held. Green Garage plans later to create a methodology that will enable training for the development of a variety of prototypes.

Green Garage operates as a membership system that anyone can join for a monthly or annual fee. Special discounts are applied for technology students and hardware start-ups.

Green Garage is the first professional maker space in the Baltics. The maker movement, which is very popular in the USA, is an umbrella term for independent inventors, designers and tinkerers. The maker movement in the USA is supported by the government. Last year, president Barack Obama hosted the first White House Maker Faire and announced a programme to increase access for both young and old citizens to tools and techniques to help bring their ideas to life. According to USA Today, makers fuel the business arena, with some $29 billion poured into the world economy each year.

Green Garage is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm at 12 Konstitucijos Av., Vilnius.
