Lithuania should step up its resistance to Russia's potential meddling with the upcoming elections in Lithuania next year, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius says.

"It would be naïve to believe that Lithuania will be an exception and we won’t get into the attention zone. Of course, it's probably not the most significant state for Russia to cause any fuss. But since it happens in practically all countries, as we see, and is done electronically and measures of strategic communication are used, through influence agents and all other measures, so why it should not happen in Lithuania?" the minister told the Žinių Radijas news radio on Tuesday.

"Every country, including Lithuania, should pay attention to that and that resistance must be stepped up," he added.

Lithuania will hold municipal, presidential and EP elections next year. Moreover, there are ongoing discussions on holding a dual citizenship referendum together with the presidential vote.
