NATO fighter-jets serving in the Baltic air-policing mission were last week scrambled once from Lithuania to intercept a Russian warplane flying above the Baltic Sea.

The Allied jets were scrambled last Tuesday over An-26 airplane flying from mainland Russia to the Kaliningrad region with its onboard transponder on and maintained contact with flight controllers, however, had not filed a flight plan, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
