"The first induction papers will probably be put in the mail today, 1,000 induction letters will be sent out by Friday," Major Dainius Kazlauskas, the head of the Mobilization Division, told journalists at the army's Joint Staff on Thursday.

Random soldiers from Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys and Marijampolė counties will be invited to arrive at certain points on 23 April to verify their personal data and have their health examined.

The induction papers will be sent to reserve soldiers who served between 2000 and 2008.

Brigadier General Vilmantas Tamošaitis, the commander of the Joint Staff, said the exercise is aimed at "testing the mobilization system in practice."

"If there are shortcomings and errors, they will have to be corrected or some changes will have to be initiated. This is the first exercise of the type, it will not be the last, some are planned for the future, as well," the general told journalists.
