In her words, the propaganda is aimed at people's way of thinking, thus threatening social cohesion and leading to military confrontation.

"The opening of the NATO Strategic Communications Center confirms our concern and deep understanding of information security and propaganda threats," said Grybauskaitė.

The inauguration shows NATO's ability to respond to the challenge and its readiness to counter it, she said.

"A landscape of lies and manipulation is rough, disinformation is short-lived and ultimately will fail. The truth is mighty and always prevails," the Lithuanian president said at the ceremony.

Russia particularly stepped up its propaganda campaign after tensions between the Western world and Russia escalated to the highest level since the Cold War due to the war in Ukraine.
