Bridikis will take the post on Tuesday.

After starting his career at the VIP Protection Department in 1995, Bridikis served in the Special Operations Forces and participated in three missions in Afghanistan. He was an officer at the NATO Special Operations staff. Since 2013, Bridikis was the Special Operations deputy chief for operations and training.

The new deputy director of the State Security Department holds a master's degree from the Vilnius Pedagogical University, has studied at the Baltic Defence College in Tallinn and has completed a number of special operations and counter-terrorism courses in Lithuania and abroad.

Bridikis filled the last vacant place of deputy director of the State Security Department. Grybauskaitė's former adviser Kęstutis Budrys also joined the team earlier in July after the president sacked Sigitas Butkus and Romualdas Vaišnoras in late June.

Other deputy directors include Akvilė Giniotienė and Alvydas Kunigėlis.

The department's new director Darius Jauniškis took the post in April, replacing Gediminas Grina in the position.

Under the Intelligence Law, the department's deputy directors are proposed by the director and appointed by the president.
