A joint combat training event, scheduled to last for almost two weeks, is starting in the Lithuanian town of Pabradė on Monday and will involve more than 100 troops from Lithuania's Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion and around 80 American soldiers.

According to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the first week of training will focus on combat shooting and soldiers will carry out jumps with parachutes during the second week.

Members of the US 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team have been deployed at the Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion in the southern city of Alytus since June and are scheduled to stay there until the middle of August. They will be further moved to the King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion in the northern city of Panevėžys.

Rotating US contingents have been stationed in the Baltic states and Poland since last spring.
