The world's most militarized country is Israel, according to the Global Militarization Index compiled by experts at the Bonn International Center for Conversion.

The most militarized country of the Baltic states is Estonia - 21st on the list. Lithuania is 58th, while Latvia, 78th.

The index is based on data from year 2013, covering a total of 152 countries.

The ten most militarized countries in the world are Israel, Singapore, Armenia, Syria, Russia, Cyprus, South Korea, Jordan, Greece, and Azerbaijan.

Europe's ten most militarized countries are Armenia, Russia, Cyprus, Greece, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Finland, Estonia, and Turkey.

Between 2009 and 2013, expenditures for equipment and procurement in European NATO states fell by more than USD 9 billion.

The world's least militarized countries are Panama, Costa Rica, and Haiti.

The Global Militarisation Index reflects the relative weight and importance of the military apparatus of one state in relation to its society as a whole.
