The Lithuanian Defence Ministry published on Monday this year's military conscription lists.

The lists include the names of slightly more than 25,000 young men born between 1991 and 1997.

Just over 3,500 persons will be actually called up for mandatory military service by the end of the year. Defence Minister Raimundas Karoblis expects that all of them will be volunteers.

Laimonas Brazaitis, spokesman for the Defence Ministry, told BNS that 550 people had already enlisted for military service on a voluntary basis.

Lithuania reintroduced military conscription in 2015 in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine and the Baltic Sea region.
