Lithuania may double its contribution to international efforts against the Islamic State (ISIS), Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius said.

"Some countries of the coalition are very rich and powerful and have their potential; therefore, we cannot measure ourselves against all of them. However, we are already taking part in the coalition by sending our instructors to Iraq and we will certainly consider doubling our contribution," he told BNS by phone from Washington.

Linkevičius on Wednesday participated in a meeting of ministers of the US-led coalition against ISIS.

As a member of the coalition, Lithuania early this year sent six military instructors to Iraq to train local forces.

The parliament has given the green light for sending up to 30 troops to Iraq this year.
