An international exercise Fire Thunder 2015 is starting in Lithuania on Monday, involving about 450 troops from Lithuania, the United States, Poland and Portugal.

US artillery systems Paladin with a firing range of up to 30km were for the first time brought to Lithuania for the exercise, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence said.

The exercise will take place in the training areas of General Povilas Plechavičius (Klaipėda district) and General Silvestras Žukauskas (Pabradė) on April 13 through 24.

During the training, artillery units will carry coast guard tasks and subdue targets at sea, while mine-sweeping units will ensure indirect fire support, said the ministry.

According to the press release, the international exercise Fire Thunder is organized in Lithuania by the Lithuanian Land Force of the Lithuanian Armed Forces for the third time in a row.
