The Lithuanian Riflemen's Union (LŠS), a non-profit paramilitary organization whose volunteer members run and participate in various militarised training activities, has been granted 500 automatic weapons in an agreement with the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence.

The AK-4MT guns will be used in training and exercises run by the LŠS. The LŠS will be entrusted with the weapons for 10 years after completing a contract with the ministry. The weapons will be stored in both LŠS and ministry armories.

The LŠS, which organizes camps and training exercises for youth and adults alike, was re-formed in 1989 after being dissolved during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania.
