This year's National Culture and Arts Prize has been awarded to actress Eglė Gabrėnaitė, writer Danutė Kalinauskaitė and photographic artist Gintautas Trimakas.

Among the six winners announced by the Culture Ministry on Monday, there are also composer Justė Janulytė, set designer Gintaras Makarevičius and visual arts creators Svajonė and Paulius Stanikas.

The winners were selected from more than 40 proposed candidates who were shortlisted to 12 contestants for the prizes.

With the National Culture and Arts Prizes, Lithuania celebrates the most significant works in culture and arts created by authors of Lithuania and the Lithuanian World Community over the past seven years, as well lifetime works.

Earmarked annually, the prizes total at 800 basic social benefits, which currently amounts to 22,800 euros.

The winners will be awarded the diplomas and signs of the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize on the occasion of restoration of Lithuania's statehood on Feb. 16.
