1. Catcher in the hillforts

What does the small town of Sudargas in the south of Lithuania have in common with the great writer Jerome Salinger? The Catcher in the Rye author’s grandfather was born there, and now a statue dedicated to the writer is making its rock’n’roll presence felt amongst the town’s impressive hillforts. 2. Pink Elephant

Have you tried saltibarsciai, Lithuania’s traditional cold beet root soup? If so, you’ll be well acquainted with its bright pink color. It might not be House of Cards, but the House of Pots is definitely more fun. The House of Pots in Zagare will definitely stop you in your tracks and have you reaching for your camera. With a roof lined with thousands of pots and pans and a cool museum inside, this house is definitely one for your Instagram feed.


4. Nuclear Power Plant

A truly atomic experience awaits you at Ignalina nuclear power plant. This decommissioned power plant offers tourist excursion to groups. And for that real Chernobyl effect, you’ll be kitted out in Hazmat suits and given dosimeters. And speaking of Chernobyl, this nuclear power plant served as the actual location for the Emmy winning HBO series Chernobyl.


5. Stikliai Street

This street in the heart of Vilnius’ Old Town was recently a top trending location on local Instagram when a group of artists gave it some stellar swag during the city’s Culture Night event (constellations of small hot air balloons and colorful stars were hung above the street). In this island of modern art – the MO museum –a project by Daniel Libeskind, you’ll find that the art is not only hanging on the walls. The museum’s central staircase, constructed to resemble a DNA spiral, is the perfect spot for a photo op.

Experience some authentic Cold War relics right under your feet. In the heart of Lithuania’s capital Vilnius, surrounded by the lofts and apartment buildings of the cities Naujamiestis district you’ll find a real underground Cold War Bunker.
