On Saturday, the most interesting Christmas tree in Lithuania was lit up in Rokiškis. The festive tree is put together from spruce planks and illuminated with various lights from both inside and outside.

The Rokiškis Christmas tree was lit in the yard of the regional museum's yard. Alongside lighting the unique wooden construction, Rokiškis also became Lithuanian Capital of Culture 2019, taking over the title from Marijampolė.

The Rokiškis Christmas tree does not feature the typical adornments of a Christmas tree. The construction has a bird figurine set atop it, while in various other locations, the tree is adorned with toys made out of mirror fragments or other woodwork and wooden garlands.

Rokiškis Manor has also opened a Christmas residence, where it will be possible to meet Father Christmas and enjoy various events up to January 6.

Delfi reminds that the 15 meter tall Christmas tree is dedicated by Rokiškis residents to the memory of the region's most unique wood carver, Lithuanian folk sculptor Lionginas Šepka. The tree was designed by Šiauliai University docent, artist Arūnas Uogintas, who also helped with its creation.
