Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaitė has given bottles of perfume to two of the country's bronze-winning athletes who had their personal belongings stolen in Rio de Janeiro.

Rowers Milda Valčiukaitė and Donata Vištartaitė won Olympic bronze in the Women's Double Sculls event. Their stay in Brazil started off less successfully, however, when they were robbed of a substantial sum of money and their perfumes in the Olympic village.

"I made a promise and now have to keep it. I had promised to buy perfume to the Lithuanian rowing duo Milda and Donata, if they win medals. The day of reckoning has come :)," Grybauskaitė said on her Facebook feed, also posting a photograph from the President's Office, with the two Lithuanian athletes holding the president's presents.

In all, Lithuanian athletes won medals in four events of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
