Lithuania's second-largest city Kaunas will ask the country's swimming champion Rūta Meilutytė to become the face and ambassador of the International Children's Games the city will host in 2017, Kaunas Mayor Andrius Kupčinskas told a press conference on Monday.

"Rūta is looking positively to the idea but we have not received the final response. I have no doubt that she will not ignore the games and will be delighted to become the ambassador," Kupčinskas said.

In his words, the games, expected to be attended by around 2,000 athletes from all around the world, will not only promote the city's name but will also be beneficial for local business.

Held since 1968, the games are hosted by a different city every year and see under-16s competing in 6-10 sports.
