Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has offered his condolences to Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain Mariano Rajoy on the tragic Germanwings airliner crash in the French Alps, which has taken the lives of citizens of both countries, the prime minister's press service said.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the deadly catastrophe of Germanwings airliner 4U 9525 in the French Alps. On behalf of the Government and the people of our country, allow me to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims," reads Prime Minister Butkevičius' letter of condolences.

The head of Government of Lithuania expresses his heartfelt sympathy to the people of Spain and Germany in this hour of sorrow.
