Emanuelis Zingeris, a member of the Lithuanian parliamentary delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has been nominated as candidate for PACE president, the MP's office said.

Zingeris was proposed for the position by Axel Fischer, chairman of the group of the European People's Party.

The Lithuanian politician will compete with Stella Kyriakides of Greece for the post.

The president will be elected during the PACE fall session in Strasbourg on Oct. 9 -13.

PACE is an assembly that features the broadest representation in Europe, uniting delegates from national parliaments of 47 countries.
