Under the adopted amendments, people will need to do less paperwork under pandemic conditions. The changes will take into force on May 1. A patient who voluntarily arrives at vaccination places to get vaccinated against a pandemic-causing disease will be deemed as having given consent and will not be required to fill a paper consent form.

The changes to the Law on the Rights of Patients and Compensation of the Damage to Their Health were on Tuesday backed by 113 lawmakers, four were against and four abstained.

Ex-Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga, who initiated the amendments, says the new rules will be similar to those in force when a person calls an ambulance. If a person calls medics, it is deemed that he gives consent for assistance to be provided.

"If a patient arrives for vaccination, it is deemed that the person agrees to be vaccinated and does not need to fill in a lot of documents," Veryga said.
