Young people in Lithuania are not avid followers of news about their country and the world, a study has shown. Most rely on social media as their source of news.

"Obviously, modern media and the Internet are given a priority and many say specifically that social networks, Facebook in particular, are their source of news," Nerijus Maliukevičius, a political scientists, said in a news conference at the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania on Monday.

"They log in to the network in the morning and log off at the end of the day. It is an interesting phenomenon, because television is no longer so relevant for this group, to say nothing of the print media and radio," he said.

The study involved young people between 18 and 29, both Lithuanian and non-Lithuanian speakers.
They were divided into five focus groups, each consisting of 6-7 respondents.

The qualitative research on media consumption habits among young people in Lithuania was conducted by TNS LT for the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania in January through February.
