The Vilnius City Municipality has decided to light up the monument of Three Crosses and the Town Hall in the colours of the flag of Ukraine, which is celebrating its 25-year independence anniversary, reversing its earlier decision.

The monument and the Town Hall in the Lithuanian capital will be lit up in light blue and yellow overnight.

The municipality had earlier rejected an application from a group of activists to light up the monument of Three Crosses in blue and yellow, triggering a wave of indignation.

Aleksandras Zubriakovas, spokesman for the Vilnius mayor, told DELFI that the municipality had earlier decided to reject such type of applications – the Georgian Embassy recently had an analogous plea rejected.
