Unreliable individuals have entered Lithuania due to gaps in the country's migration system, says Darius Jauniškis, chief of the State Security Department (VSD).

"One of them has already lost his permit, this is no secret, but yes, there are still unreliable persons. We are watching them and monitoring the processes," Jauniškis confirmed to journalists at the parliament on Wednesday.

Journalists learned about such cases from Vytautas Bakas, chairman of the parliamentary National Security and Defense Committee, after the committee's meeting on problems emerging in the migration system.

"The past few years marked access of a few individuals who are not friendly towards our state and who are linked with

terrorism. The system does not work," said the politician.

Jauniskis said the persons were being watched, however, legal regulation does not always allow decisions to send them out of the country.

"We lack legal argumentation, and this has to do with the Lithuanian and European law, we need certain evidence to have a pretext of deporting them from Lithuania," said the security chief.

At the same time, Jauniškis refused to specify the number of such persons, assuring that "the VSD is working intensively on the matter, there are a few inquiries in progress."

"We are watching the people, if there is enough evidence, which we could present in court and send them out of the country, we will take every possible step," said the head of the department.

Last Friday, Lithuanian authorities annulled a residence permit for Anton Treushnikov, an adviser to the council of SMP, a bank linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Treushnikov had held a Lithuanian residence permit for 11 years.

The European Union has brought sanctions against SMP and its founders, Russian billionaires Arkadiy and Boris Rotenberg.
