The funeral is planned on Monday in Šiauliai, Faina Kukliansky, chairwoman of the Jewish Community in Lithuania, told BNS.

"Stein managed to preserve both the Litvak community traditions and good relations with the local authorities, and also to revive the community which forgot its traditions during the Soviet times. It's a huge loss for us," she said.

In her words, Šauliai has been preparing for commemorative events to mark the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Šiauliai ghetto in September. "We will finish the work he started," Kukliansky said.
