Rain in parts of Lithuania on Friday night did not end severe drought in some areas, and it still remains in five municipalities – Šakiai, Alytus, Marijampolė, Trakai District and Kalvarija.

"Following Friday's rain, the situation has barely changed. We hoped for major rainfall but the amount of precipitation was fairly small. (…) So in fact severe drought remains in areas where it was as the situation has barely improved," Justina Kazlauskienė of the Hydrometeorological Service told BNS Lithuania on Friday morning.

Due to very dry whether, access to forest has been banned or restricted in some municipalities.
