Breast cancer affects many women across the globe, and is both distressing and painful to all involved. Diagnosing it early is crucial.

The aim of the seventh Blossom of Hope event in the Lithuanian capital is to improve the early diagnosis of breast cancer, and provide support to those who are forced to fight this terrible disease.

The proceeds from the event will be spent on biopsy needles and breast markers that will be donated to oncology hospitals in Vilnius, and in the other Lithuanian cities of Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai.

“Oncology hospitals in Lithuania are in constant need of essential medical equipment such as biopsy needles and breast markers that help detect cancer in its early stages,” says the Chairperson of the Blossom of Hope committee, Giusy Cappelli Bernardi.

“We believe with the collective effort of people who are not indifferent to this worthy cause, we can make a difference,” she continued.

During the event, guests will be able to take part in two auctions – one silent, and other which offers valuable jewellery, artwork, packages at luxury hotels in Budapest, Rome, as well as in Lithuania’s neighbouring Baltic States, Latvia and Estonia.

“Breast cancer is a very common disease and unfortunately it’s becoming more common,” said Sarah Hunt who helped organize the auctions. “I would like to see some of the fear and anxiety taken away from the idea of it, and I hope that we can help achieve this by providing hospitals in Lithuania with extra medical supplies for its diagnosis and treatment.

“By supporting IWAV's Blossom of Hope initiative and buying wonderful items from our auctions, our guests are helping us to help women across Lithuania.“

The theme of this year’s Blossom of Hope event takes inspiration from the James Bond films.

Opening the event will be show business guru, Jared Hall, who ran two of the most iconic nightclubs in Paris – Les Bains Douches, and Les Bus Palladium. In addition to his duties as the event’s Master of Ceremonies, he will also act as the auctioneer.

The Blossom of Hope gala will also feature live music performances by Erica Jennings and Victor Diawara with the NO DJs project, plus music from Artūras Novikas’ vocal jazz band Jazz Island.

Each year the event attracts around 150 attendees, and over the last six years, IWAV has spent €82,000 on the purchase of biopsy needles and breast markers.

IWAV is a non-profit, charitable organisation uniting international women in helping disadvantaged groups in Lithuania. This year, IWAV is pleased to be celebrating its 17th anniversary.
