According to specialists, the primary reason of HIV infections in Lithuania used to be intravenous drug use. In recent years, however, the trends have changed. More people than before now get HIV via unprotected sex.

Compared to last year, there has also been a rise in infections among women. There are now over 500 women with HIV in Lithuania.

In 2015, 141 new cases of HIV have been diagnosed in the country. In all, there are now 2,519 registered HIV patients, 80 percent of them men.
