Culture Vice-Minister Patricija Poderytė told BNS that the survey should cover Poles, Russians and Jews living in Lithuania.

"We aim to interview three ethnic minority groups – Poles, Russians and Jews – to find out their situation: what the people need and what we can offer them," said the vice-minister.

Earlier this week, the ministry issued a public call for tenders to find a company that would perform the survey and analyze its results.

Based on the conclusions and recommendations, the Culture Ministry will develop a 2016-2022 program or preserving identity of ethnic minorities and their integration.

"Every program should be developed based on surveys, and we will now buy one (…). The ministry should receive the result by the end of this year," the vice-minister added.

In her words, the program will include cultural, educational, healthcare, provision of information and other aspects.

According to the latest census conducted in 2011, Polish-speakers account for 6.6 percent of Lithuania's population while Russian-speakers make up 5.8 percent.
