Lithuania's Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) will award an honorary doctorate to Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski.

The award ceremony is scheduled for June 30, the university said on Thursday.

The title of VDU honorary doctor has been awarded to Komorowski for consolidating democracy, fostering good neighbourly relations between Lithuania and Poland, and supporting national cultural values.

Vytautas Magnus University awards honorary doctorate titles to internationally renowned citizens of Lithuania and other countries for their merits in science and culture, as well as for the state of Lithuania and the university.

Komorowski's presidential term ends on August 6. He will be replaced by Andrzej Duda.
