Lithuania's legendary actress, director, screenwriter, and author Galina Dauguvietytė died in Vilnius on Thursday. She was 89 years old.

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė have offered their condolences over Dauguvietytė's death.

According to the president, Dauguvietytė was an important public person in Lithuania, who formed the best television traditions in the country.

Dauguvietytė was born on 25 November 1926.
