On Tuesday, the Lithuanian parliament, Seimas, backed draft amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control, which suggest prohibiting alcohol use and possession by individuals under 20. If adopted, the law would come into effect on 1 November.

Currently, such restrictions apply only to individuals younger than 18 years of age.

The proposed amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control were supported by 42 MPs, 12 MPs voted against with 18 abstentions. The Seimas will have to vote once more in order to pass the amendments.
