‘The Gambler‘ is a stylish thriller about an ambulance driver Vincentas (Vytautas Kaniusonis) whose addiction to gambling leads him to play a dangerous game with patients’ lives. While he's the best and brightest paramedic in the crew, he is also a voracious gambler. Soon Vincentas finds himself deep in debt and decides that the only way out is to play one more illegal game.

The film premièred last year in San Sebastian’s Kutxa-New Directors section and successfully toured more than 30 festivals.

The film will be released in Lithuania on 24 September. Exhibition rights have been sold in Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The deadline for submitting films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is 1 October. The five final contenders for the Oscar will be selected by the Academy and announced on 15 January. The award ceremony will take place on 22 February 2015.
