Justina Kazlauskienė of the Hydrometeorological Service told BNS Lithuania on Monday that severe drought would be declared in Birštonas, Druskininkai, Varėna, Šalčininkai and Elektrėnai.

"Today we'll add five more municipalities with severe drought in southern Lithuania as southern Lithuania has seen a lot less precipitation. The situation is slightly better in western Lithuania," she said.

Currently, the state of severe drought is in place in Šakiai, Alytus, Marijampolė, Trakai District and Kalvarija.

Access to some forests is currently restricted due to extremely dry weather.
