"On this issue, a consensus will be sought in the society before making any decisions," she told reporters on Friday when asked about same-sex partnerships.

The Social Democratic Party's new candidate for justice minister was speaking after a meeting with President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Vainiute said that she had discussed with Grybauskaitė the key issues to be dealt with in the areas within the Justice Ministry's sphere of responsibility, including the Prison Department. The candidate sees improving prison infrastructure as a top priority.
