The Lithuanian Art Museum is opening an exhibition which includes works by world-renown Belarusian artists of the Paris school.
Marc Chagall

Belarusian cultural scientists have recognized the project as one of the most important Belarusian cultural events of 2013. This is the first time the unique exposition is presented outside Belarus, the Lithuanian Art Museum said.

Presented at the Vilnius Art Gallery, the show consists of 69 works of early 20-century Paris school artists who were born in Belarus and later earned international fame.

The collection was started by company Belgazprombank in 2011. It now includes works by Marc Chagall, Chaimo Soutine, Pinchus Kremegne, Michel Kikoine, Ossip Lubitch, Ossip Zadkine, Schraga Zarfin and others.

"The Paris artists from Belarus have a connection to the Vilnius culture, many of them started studying at Vilnius Art School. From the very beginning, we thought the exhibition had to be brought to Vilnius," Romualdas Budrys, director of the Lithuanian Art Museum, told Lithuanian and Belarusian journalists on Thursday.

The exhibition will be open until 9 November.
