Just over a dozen people gathered for a rally outside the Italian Embassy in Vilnius on Tuesday to protest against what they said was passive stance of the European Union (EU) presidency and other Western European countries on Russia.

"September 3 marks 75 years since Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. Imagine France supplying arms to Germany in 1939. Would they really say – we understand that Poland is under attack but we have old contracts?" the organizer of the action, Vytautas Danilevičius, said referring to France's intentions to sell Mistral warships to Russia.

Officials of the Italian Embassy came out to listen to the protesters.

Organizers of the campaign said they intend to hold a symbolic Mistral incineration ceremony outside the French Embassy.
